The first and most obvious is that your system will be wire free. This is efficient because it allows for the most versatility during installation because you don’t have to worry about your equipment being situated near an outlet or telephone line for internet connection. There is now wireless camera security technology that comes equipped with 4G internet communications technology and extended battery life that will last years on a single charge before needing to be replaced. Wireless security cameras also have the added advantage of being harder to disable. Many criminals today know to seek out the wires around the perimeter of the property that they are targeting and cut the cables in hopes of disabling any security systems that have been installed such as alarm and CCTV systems. Because wireless camera security systems have no cables that be cut they are much harder to deactivate.

Hi Caytlin, I’m sorry to hear that you’ve been burglarized! If you’re looking to self monitor, SimpliSafe is not a good choice as you won’t be able to livestream footage, receive notifications, or control your system remotely. Since your Internet connection isn’t great you should definitely look for a system with cellular or landline backup. I’d look into abode. Their Connect Plan is only $10 a month or $96 a year and it will give you cellular backup and unlimited self monitoring. Here’s a link to my review of their starter kit w61s9Our primary concern is that we have 3 levels; The front entrance is on the ground floor in our bedroom is on the third floor. When we’re in the bedroom between the white noise machine in the central air system we would never be able to hear anything happening on the first/ground floor. We’re looking for an economical, DIY security system with a loud alarm/siren to alert us when were sleeping And to alert us if there is an intruder when we’re not home. We’d love your input/ recommendations!Would also love your thoughts/advice on self monitoring vs using a security company to monitor. Many thanks!KelliHi Kelli, You’re very welcome and thanks for reading! There are a bunch of different companies that have sirens I recommend SimpliSafe. However, if you self monitor with SimpliSafe, you won’t be able to control your system remotely, livestream footage, or receive notifications. 24/7 professional monitoring would be better for a family where all adults work full time and wouldn’t have time to contact emergency services if an alarm goes off.

Security camera systems are one of the best tools for crime deterrence that home and business owners have readily available to them. Statistics have demonstrated time and time again that criminals tend to select properties that see as the “easiest targets. ” When a potential thief or intruder sees a professional security camera system monitoring over a property they are significantly more likely to turn away from that locale as a target. A security camera system can help increase your home’s property value while also reducing your insurance premiums. This means that a wireless surveillance camera system installed in your residential property can be thought of as an investment rather than an expense for security. If a crime does ever occur on site of your property footage from your wireless surveillance camera technology will allow the authorities to more easily identify the perpetrator and facilitates finding and convicting the criminal responsible.
